Contribution To Freifunk Convent On Djursland - September 2004
30/5-04:

Hey everybody ! :-)
Here follows long awaited information from me. It has also been sent to freifunk@DjurslandS.net by the 29.th of may 2004.

All the following has point by point been placed under the relevant areas of responsibility mentioned above.

Contribution to Freifunk Convent on Djursland - september 2004
from Bjarke Nielsen, - chairman of The Broadbandunion DjurslandS.net.

Each area of responsibility for organizing the Freifunk Convent is commented here:

Supervisor:
Robert has made a framework in Danish for organising the convent and has made a raw budget which the following work has been build upon.

Marketing:
"The Broadbandunion DjurslandS.net" need to campaign in Danish to attract attention in the Danish public. For this reason we are preparing web pages and a flyer in Danish.

Campaign for gathering:
"The Broadbandunion DjurslandS.net" need to campaign in Danish to attract attention in the Danish public. For this reason we are preparing web pages and a flyer in Danish. Also we work on making the official society take their part of responsibility for attracting interest in the Freifunk convent.

Conference information:
We have now made appointments that the convent shall be centred in "The Noerre Djurs Hallen", - a sports hall in the town Glesborg in the northern Djursland, under which the Koordinationcenter of DjurslandS.net resides. In the entrance or hall room of "The Noerre Djurs Hallen" an information desk will be placed and at all time during the convent two guides will be positioned there, to guide the participants in the convent and take care of all eventualities.

Registration and attendance:
Accommodation will be for free 1) for participant who wants to stay at the camp around "The Noerre Djurs Hallen" where the convent is kept or 2) for participants who can live with housing at the neighbouring school. Yet we have made an appointment with "The Tourist organisation of Djursland" to support the convent by organising accommodation at guesthouses and hotels in the vicinity of "The Noerre Djurs Hallen" to the cheapest possible prices (cheaper than we
can get them ourselves), so that 3) those who like more comfort can choose so.
At the webpage for registration of attendance it should be possible to choose between these tree kind of accommodations, and if the third point of accommodation is chosen (accommodation at guesthouses and hotels in the vicinity of "The Noerre Djurs Hallen") a frame presenting the possible guesthouses and hotels - made by "The Tourist organisation of Djursland" - should be presented in a way which makes it possible for the attendant to reserve a specific kind of room at a specific place.

Travelling:
From the webpage for registration of attendance we - as organisers - should be informed whether people come by own transportation or by train or by flight, as we have to consider local transportation by rented busses, from the railway station in Aarhus and from our local airport in Tirstrup (Arhus). The ordinary local bus lines on Djursland might not be able to cope with the amount of travellers without making a lot of people come late.

Housing and accommodation:
"The Glesborg School" is the neighbour of "The Noerre Djurs Hallen". In the gymnasium of the school participants who don't mind simple accommodation will get free housing. They need to bring a sleeping bag, towel etc. Bathing can take place both at the school and in the sports hall.
Those who bring a tent or other camping gear will for free be shown to a camp on the grass area around "The Noerre Djurs Hallen".
For those who like more comfort it will be possible to choose from a list of good places to stay in the night in the vicinity of "The Noerre Djurs Hallen".
The "Tourist organisation of Djursland" will arrange this as cheap as possible in cooperation with us who arrange the convent. In the design of the attendance webpage we have to make sure that people at the time of attendance on the website for the convent, has the possibility to choose a guesthouse or hotel. Participants who choose one of these possibilities will have to pay directly to the landlord, as this service will not be part of the basic attendance fee. A bus will bring participants forth and back at due times for free.

Food:
The meals will be delivered by "SuperBrugsen in Glesborg", the local supermarket in walk distance from "The Noerre Djurs Hallen", and it will be served in a cafeteria area of "The Noerre Djurs Hallen". Breakfast between 8 and 9 o'clock, lunch between 12 and 1 o'clock and dinner between 6 and 7 o'clock. The participants will already have paid for all the meals in the basic attendance fee. There will also be free coffee, tea and fruits etc. between the meals. In the design of the attendance webpage we have to make sure that special needs, like vegetarian food, can be expressed.

Local transportation:
A bus will for free bring participants who has chosen accommodation at guesthouses or hotels forth and back at due times. Se also under Travelling.

Main schedule:
Conference, meetings and workshops of the convent take place between the meals. All meals is served in the cafeteria area of "The Noerre Djurs Hallen".

Detailed program of conferences and workshops:
This subject is important to structure as soon as possible, as it is needed to be able to finish the work on the webpage for attendance in due time.
1) NET: At least one of the workshops should prepare the interested participants for the practical workshop week - after the weekend - building the physical network at certain interesting localities around Djursland, - as practise really is everything in generating the ability to build broadband radio networks covering the landscape.
2) WEB: At least one other workshop should concern itself about the importance of using the network for general all encompassing information, as a service for building the local society in general, as well as using the network - along with other medias - for inspiriting the local citizens to involve themselves in building their own part of a mutual broadband infrastructure of their area, and also to involve themselves in putting it to use with all kind of services.
3) SUPPORT: Another workshop has to grow understanding of the importance of support to the citizens in an well organized manner, as the citizens get more and more involved in the IT-society and get lots of trouble with IT-gear and its possibilities. It is crucial to now how to solve the problems and to now how to evolve and organize the practical ability to take care and solve all the problems as they develop.
4) ORGANIZATION: A workshop on how to organize people around building their own IT-infrastructure as ones own contribution to the IT-society, might be most important and unavoidable, as inspiriting organizing is the key to make NET, WEB and SUPPORT come true as a social reality.

The chairman of DjurslandS.net can contribute with an educating speech in the beginning of the common conference to introduce and inspire the extreme importance of the coordinated effort on all four areas, and thence inspire attendance in all four workshops.

DjurslandS.net can contribute with teachers and trainers for all four workshops.

We hope to convince the Danish minister of science to open the convent, and from this attract a lot of media attention to the subject of bringing cheap broadband to rural areas all over the world, to make it possible for everybody to participate on equal terms in the more and more dominating IT-society.

"The Tourist organisation of Djursland" has agreed to pinpoint the cream of tourist attraction on Djursland to make some of them part of a Saturday excursion around Djursland to sense the extreme wide area of DjurslandS.net.

Places for meetings:
"The Noerre Djurs Hallen" will be the common ground for the conferences, meetings and the workshops of the convent, as well as for all the meals.
The big sports hall will be divided into two equal parts by a wall, bringing forth a conference hall and a cafeteria. Besides there will be a workshop area for up to 100 participants, another area for up to 40 participant and yet another area for up to 20 and a small room for up to 10 participant.
Besides the big cafeteria there will also be the ordinary cafeteria, a cosy place for drinking coffee and tea and chatting in small groups for about 30 people. In other words can up to 200 people attend workshops at up to 5 different places at the same time, and yet other people can eat in the big cafeteria area and yet other people again can attend the big meeting in the conference area, as this area is reserved and can continue completely undisturbed at all times.

Financing:
To get access to the convent in "The Noerre Djurs Hallen" and to participate in all arrangements there, inclusive meals etc. each participant contribute with a basic attendance fee of 10 ? (euro) a day. Accommodation either at the school near by or in the camp at the grass area around the sports hall is for free and this includes both local transportation and bathing either at the facilities for this at the school or in the sports hall, while travelling to and from Djursland and other kind of housing, like at guesthouses or hotels, are paid for directly by each individual.
"The Djurslands Developing Council", a board of the mayors on Djursland, contribute to the financing of the convent with 6.725 ? (euro). Other kind of financial support are still investigated.

Deadlines of planning:
The webpage for attendance and thence the detailed program of conferences and workshops has become most important now, as people already plan their late summer time now.
